With everyone’s health and safety in mind, the Reopening Committee has been monitoring the latest local, state, and CDC Covid data, according to which, Chemung and Steuben counties are now at High risk for Covid-19 transmission. Based on this information, the Reopening Committee recommended an update to our Coivd-19 policies and the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to enact this update for our High Holy Services.
Only vaccinated individuals can attend High Holy Days services in person with 2 exceptions: children under 12 and adults who provide proof (from an MD or DO) that they cannot be vaccinated. Masks are required for all in attendance, except for the officiants who tested negative within 72 hours of the High Holy Day services.
Proof of vaccination should be sent to the CKA office before the High Holy Days. If you have already sent in your proof of vaccination, you do not need to do it again; you only need to show proof of vaccination once.
As a reminder, Zoom services are open to anyone, vaccinated or unvaccinated. Participation via Zoom requires registration. Please register athttps://bit.ly/2US54wo. You’ll receive immediate confirmation with the Zoom link.
As published, High Holy Days services this year will be held in the Hoffman Great Room at First Presbyterian Church, 1054 W. Clinton Street. The 1stDay Shofar service will be held separately at the Grove street boat launch, when we gather for Tashlich at 4PM, September 7.
Holding High Holy Day Services at First Pres has many advantages.
-
It has comfortable, movable chairs that can be arranged in a way that can ensure social distancing.
-
The room is equipped with a projection screen, a state-of-the-art sound system, and internet connectivity that will allow us to easily conduct multi-access services for Roomers and Zoomers alike.
-
The Hoffman Great Room is air conditioned. This is very desirable, since this year the High Holidays are in early September when it is likely to be hot and humid, especially when wearing masks.
-
The room has a MERV 10 air handling system.
-
The room will have no Christian religious symbols and we can bring our Torahs, bima reading table, and other items important to our services.
-
There is ample parking.
-
First Pres graciously offered us the use of the room free of charge, but of course we will find a way to show our appreciation.
The Reopening Committee and the Board of Trustees will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in our area and make changes to this policy as appropriate.
We wish you and your loved ones a Healthy and Happy New Year.
Shana Tova from the Board of Trustees of Congregation Kol Ami.
